What to Pack for a Mountain Bike Race

It’s hard to know exactly what to pack for your very first mountain bike race, but we’re here to help you get geared up the right way.

Packing usually includes all of the same gear no matter the type of race, but it’s important to keep in mind the temperatures and weather conditions you’ll be in, on and off the bike.

If you’re participating in the Sabie Xperience, a top-tier event taking place from 29 April to 1 May 2023 in Sabie, Mpumalanga, it is important to pack all the necessary gear and equipment to ensure a comfortable and successful race.

Go through the list below to make sure you have everything you need. It’s by no means an exhaustive list, but it covers the essentials you’ll need to pack for a successful mountain bike race experience.

Check the Weather and Temperatures

Sabie is situated in a valley in the Drakensberg escarpment in Mpumalanga, South Africa, and is known for its mild subtropical climate. The mornings and evenings can be quite chilly, and temperatures can drop to as low as 10°C (50°F) at night. Rainfall is low during autumn and winter, but it is still advisable to be prepared for possible wet and muddy conditions.
